ID External Star Adaptor

Interested in knowing pH and dissolved oxygen (DO) levels at varying heights/locations within your culture vessel system?

Interested in knowing pH and dissolved oxygen (DO) levels at varying heights/locations within your culture vessel system?

Designed to adhere to the exterior of your culture vessel, the ID∙External Star Adaptor is THE way to incorporate minimally invasive, real-time fiber optic sensing into your bioprocess. Place ID·Sensors pH and DO inside your culture vessel, center an ID∙External Star Adaptor over each sensor, and insert an ID·Fiber Optic Cable into each adaptor. Monitoring of culture conditions has never been so simple and adaptable.

Description

How to set up the ID • Fiber Optic Kit with the ID·External Star Adaptor Accessory

The ID • External Star Adaptor is designed to adhere to the exterior of a culture vessel while providing a point of connection for a fiber optic cable. Included
ID • Sensors, either 7mm pH or 5mm DO, must be manually placed within the culture vessel such that a sensor is centered in the through hole of the
ID • External Star Adaptor. This placement is critical for accurate measurements of pH and DO. The
ID • External Star Adaptor is single use and disposable.

  1. Install ID • Data Hub software onto your computer.
  2. Plug USB cable from ID • Converter into your computer.
  3. Plug cable from ID • Fiber Optic Reader into ID • Converter and place reader on the benchtop near the culture system.
  4. Place the ID • Sensor pH or DO within the culture vessel. If using an ID • Sensor pH, ensure the sensor is completely submerged in liquid.
  5. The pH sensor must be completely saturated to return accurate readings.
  6. Stick the ID • Sensor Guide to the exterior of the vessel so that it is centered over the ID • Sensor.
  7. Expose the adhesive on the bottom of the ID • External Star Adaptor and, using the sensor guide, attach the ID • External Star Adaptor to the outside of the vessel.Make sure the ID • External Star Adaptor is centered over the previously placed ID • Sensor within the vessel.
  8. Loosen the end nut on the ID • External Star Adaptor and feed a fiber optic cable into the top of the ID • External Star Adaptor.
  9. Ensure the cable end is flush with the bottom of the adaptor and tighten the nut.
  10. Repeat steps for additional ID • Sensors and ID • External Star Adaptor.
Use the ID • External Star Adaptor in the following systems:
  • Shake flasks
  • Bioreactors
  • Media reservoir bottles
  • Vessels with complex geometry not compatible with the standard ID • Reader
  • Monitoring of headspace dissolved oxygen
  • Measurement of pH and DO gradients within liquid media

Where are the sensors? Do I need to place them myself?

ID • External Star Adaptors come with a pack of your choice of ID • Sensor pH or DO in a separate package. The ID • External Star Adaptor is placed on the outside of the culture vessels with the ID • Sensors placed on the inside wall.

How do I place the sensors?

Use sterile forceps or one of SBI’s sensor placement tools to attach each ID • Sensor to the interior wall of your vessel.

How do I place the              ID • External Star Adaptor so that it is centered over the sensor?

Center the adherent sensor guide over the previously placed ID • Sensor and stick to the exterior of your vessel. Remove the adhesive from the ID • External Star Adaptor, align to the sensor guide, and attach to the exterior of the vessel.

Can I reuse the ID • External Star Adaptor?

The ID • External Star Adaptor is a single use, disposable product. However, because it adheres to the exterior of your culture vessel and does not interact with the culture environment, it is possible to reuse it, but we cannot guarantee the integrity of the adhesive for multiple uses.
