“Suspension cells experience oxygen limitations even in aggressively agitated shake flasks (Tolosa et al., 2002, Ge and Rao, 2012.” Continuous culture monitoring is paramount for identifying culture volume and agitation speeds and minimizing time and cost. The ID • Shaker provides real-time, non-invasive monitoring of pH and dissolved oxygen (DO) in a compact orbital shaker incubator with precise temperature control. The non-intrusive design of the sensors does not interfere with the actual culture conditions, thereby allowing for truly representative pH and dissolved oxygen data collection.

How do I incorporate optical sensors in my shake flasks?

The ID • Shaker is designed for a wide range of small-scale bacterial, yeast and mammalian shake flask cultures.

  • ID • Sensor pH and ID • Sensor DO are securely attached to the bottom of the shake flask. 
  • Four ID • Readers are embedded into the Genie Temp-Shaker 300™ platform. Shake flasks are placed on top of ID • Readers and secured with flask holders.
  • ID • Data Hub software loaded onto your laptop collects pH and DO data through the ID • Converter for each of the shake flasks.
