We are currently seeking an outstanding R&D and Operations Director who will be based in Pittsburgh, PA and work with the SBI team to fulfill our mission of empowering our customers to accelerate the discovery of safe, effective, and affordable solutions in the biotech industry.
Build, lead, and manage the engineering (R&D and operations) team, including outsourced engineering services.
Lead early-stage innovative technology development, monitor the commercial, academic, and IP landscape, and manage co-development projects with external partners.
Manage product definition, prototyping, minimally viable product development, and beta testing.
Plan and execute product development efforts and develop budgets to meet schedule and cost objectives.
Lead the design, development, and production of new products and the continuing improvement of existing products.
Build R&D and Operations bench strength by attracting, developing, and retaining top talent at all levels of the organization.
Inspire, influence, and empower colleagues to overachieve objectives.

Work across functions in a dynamic start-up environment.
Minimum Master’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
Minimum 10 years of R&D management experience in biotechnology, cell and gene therapy, and/or regenerative medicine.
Proven product development track record of commercially successful biotech products on budget and on schedule.
Proven team leadership and group management skills with ability to effectively prioritize.
Understanding of microbial and mammalian cell culture operations, bioprocess development and cGMP biomanufacturing.
Preferably experience with design for 6 Sigma/Green Belt/Lean/Agile development.
Working knowledge of manufacturing environment, process development and scale-up, QC/QA method development and validation.
Familiarity with FDA related requirements and general knowledge of regulatory processes.
Well-developed organizational, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills.
Technical ability, scientific curiosity, and business acumen.
